I {heart} faces

The theme this week at 'i heart faces' is 'pouting,' and I don't usually keep too many sad faced pictures, but this one is just too cute to send to the trash. (Can you tell that I'm a Mac user?)

Today, I feel this way myself.  With runny nose and eyes, a cough that lingers, and the chilly gray sky that hovers, a pout seemed to reach my lips as well.  That's about when I heard, "I can't get my work done when I'm looking at you, it's just too distracting."  It just rolled it's way right out of his coy smile.  I looked down awkwardly as my mind jumped at the thought of snot running down the side of my face, hair that was no longer styled, but rather swept into a ponytail and swollen red eyes.  Not a pretty sight.  He must've known what I had swarming around the clouded head of mine and answered, "I love looking at you."

Please excuse me now as I go wipe my nose.

The Awakening

the gift

"Good morning, sweetheart," he said, as my eyes slowly started to open.  I could see him flashing a crooked smile at me while my mind was coming out of the fog.  It was as if he knew I was trying to figure out what day it was.  Monday.  It was Monday, and he was leaving.  Though it was only for the day, even a day apart feels like too long, much too long.  As I was silently contemplating this, his lips caressed my forehead and left with the gentlest of kisses. I started to smile back, and inhaled his delicious scent.  With that, his lips touched my shoulder, a tingle ran through me and my heart raced.  I could feel the flush that flooded the skin of my cheeks.  With a sweet whisper of goodbye, he was gone.  I closed my eyes and tried to wake myself out of this dream... but I was already awake, with the perfect awakening.

Just as I made my way downstairs, I noticed a pretty little box laid sweetly in plain sight, with a perfectly folded white note placed atop.  A smile crossed my lips, and only grew larger as I unfolded the note that began, "Thinking of you," and said, "Happy Anniversary Week," along with many other wonderful affections.  An enjoyable morning indeed, complete with a taste of chocolate, and a fantastic start to a marvelous Anniversary week.

A Sweet Respite

pool time
pool time
Though Spring has arrived, Winter seems to be keeping a tight hold on the temperature that jumps and then falls just as fast.  Where is the respite from this blanket of snow that is slowly worn away toward bare ground and then returns with a new cloak to cover our little corner of the world?

Days like this call for a change of scenery, a place to splash and play and pretend that Winter's grip has been relinquished.  Short hotel stays certainly shake things up a bit, and with a visit from the grandparents thrown in, it's just that much sweeter a concoction.

Baby Blue has been enjoying her sunsets from her window... literally.  And as for our family we've been busy as well... looking up and looking forward.  The shadows of the past just fall behind.

Fab Finds:: Skin MD + Giveaway

Spring has definitely sprung!  I'm so ready for Spring weather to really be here, and then bring summer right on it's heels. I'm ready for the sun.  We are all ready to get outdoors and run around without having to get all bundled up, covered from head to toe in layers.  Spring always reminds me that bathing suit season is just around the corner.  I can see it now, watching Baby Blue run through thick green grass, with a pink lemonade in my hand, a summer of splashing in the pool and sporting great tans.

Then I realize with all of the fun in the sun comes the dreaded 'effects' of the sun on our skin.  We're using Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion, and the great part is it's perfect to use even now... before the hours that will be spent by the pool... I use it even while dreaming of hours by the pool.  The 'shielding' part does more than just block the sun rays, it also blocks out other harmful irritants and chemicals while allowing the natural moisture to remain in the skin.  We love it.  We love our smooth skin after using it, the light feel, and the fact that it's not greasy. A little really does go a long way and it's fragrance and colorant free, hypoallergenic and Paraben free!  We use it on the entire family, it's gentle enough for your face, and effective enough for your feet!

Oh, and one more thing! Leave a comment, any comment at all, on this post, and be entered in a drawing to win a full size 4oz bottle of Skin MD Shielding Lotion (a $25 value)!! Plus, I'll pick two more, randomly selected, lucky, dry skinned FreshMommy readers that comment, and send you a sample size packet.

So, what have you always wanted to say?

I {heart} faces

Since the theme this week at 'i heart faces' is 'no flash,' it was almost harder to choose a photo.  I almost NEVER use a flash, which means, all of my photos with faces would qualify.  So, I just randomly chose a folder, took a quick look through and selected one.  To me, it represents Spring perfectly.  The bright and cheery colors, squinting as we grow accustomed to the sunlight leading our day, green grass and time spent outdoors as we stretch away the winter.

Enjoy your Spring days... and your photos without having to use the flash!

our family

Did you notice the hair on Baby Blue? That is not how I styled it.  This shot was taken moments after a wrestling match between her and that giant pink ball. I barely managed to free her of dangling pieces of grass before we took this.

Please excuse me now as I go make my to-do list for Spring-time cleaning and organizing, I guess that's another part of Spring that's coming to mind now... maybe I'll just go outside instead.

What Happens When...

So, what happens when a little girl

with a fun new ride?

For those moments, time stood still

until the rumbling came from somewhere other than the bike.

"It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade." ~Charles Dickens

We've been experiencing day after day of burrowing away from the biting wind only to come out and let the sun warm us. Just like the flowers beginning to bloom, looking for the change of season, seeing the possibility that blossoms with change. Spring... inspiring.

Why We're Living Out of a Suitcase

living room before
So... recently, very recently, we decided to do a bit of remodeling.  In fact, this is us ripping up flooring out of our living room, dining room and kitchen.  The reason the photo is so grainy... we were ripping up flooring at 10pm.  Yes, we're crazy like that.

before
Here are my good friends Rachel and Briony, that I dragged out of bed to come help me pull carpet staples out of the floor.  Our hands are still sore and I am forever in their debt, I'm confident they won't forget this favor.

Oh, and the tile flooring from the photo on the right, that's what our kitchen floor used to look like. I'm sure my great-grandmother would've loved that floor.  I couldn't be happier that it's gone.

living room after
Here is the progress after the first day.  Though sawdust covers every surface we have, I'm so excited to get home and see the finished product.

after
Much better.  Much, much better.  Now, if I can just get a Starbucks.

I {heart} faces

This week at 'i heart faces' it's all about green.  This photo immediately came to my mind, I could stare at it all day long.

Ok, well, now I need to go so I can squeeze and hold this little girl for awhile, and try to give her kisses until she looks at me and tries to roll those pretty green eyes.  I need to go listen to her laughing and playing with her daddy, so I can laugh when I hear things like:
FreshPapa: "I'm going to bite your toes!"
Aliyah: "No daddy, they not food."

Enjoy your green day!

30 Days of Winter

days of winter
I've just wrapped up my Days of Winter photo series. Thank you for joining me in this journey that lasted quite awhile, which means there is so much contrast in the photos from beginning to end... but it makes for quite a fun journey. Winter brings so many joys and challenges, and it's a big difference from the Days of Fall series, though they are both filled with the things that are important and fun for us as a family.

I'm not sure what will come next or what tomorrow brings.  For now, I just know that I'll have my camera ready.
